R is for Ryukyu Black-breasted Leaf Turtle

A finely drawn depiction of a small turtle that is endemic to the Ryukyu archipelago in Japan, living in dense forests, steep rocky areas and caves. They have been designated as a national natural monument by the Japanese government in 1975. Unfortunately, habitat loss due to agriculture and poaching for the pet trade are still threatening the species.
