Hilma af Klint

Swedish painter Hilma af Klint (1862-1944) was a woman before her time; an abstract painter before the age of Abstraction. I came across her work after watching a film called Personal Shopper. I was instantly drawn to her use of colour and form. The story behind her work is even more interesting, in that she said that spirits spoke to her and made her paint. She believed in the occult and spiritualism and attended many seances and believed in other worlds. The crazy thing about her, is that she hid all this from the real world and presented herself as a simple portrait painter and ensured in her will that her work would never be able to be shown to anyone. Until, that is now, and I am so happy to see it.

Autumn last year the Guggenheim release a collection based on her paintings, by doing a collaboration by different artists. You can follow the link to the store on the image below, to see more! They are amazing!
