I worked with Jenny Skavlan to develop her pattern idea for a bird print in different scales with a really cool graphic scarf that I am super proud of. It's reminscent of Marc Jacobs and Miu Miu with a quirky vintage palette.

So at work I am usually researching fashion shows, being inspired and conjuring up printed textiles for Bik Bok who I work for. But once in a blue moon I get set a project that gets me even more excited since I get to think outside my regular box... Last year for Bik Bok's accessories department Sassymanii; I was asked to design some packaging ideas for candles. For each scent I made a different print and made different packaging concepts adding a little luxurious touch with some metallic foiling details...I am super excited about seeing these in real life!

I have this underlying desire to spread my textile design into homewares, so I have started drawing some ideas for printed ceramics and this idea is one of them. I drew a mirrored repeat and played around with it in illustrator...

...I can imagine them further being printed onto tea cups and other homewares...gets me a little excited! I just have to find some place to actually make them!

The Sketchbook Project

So it's been a while, but that's because I have moved to a new continent! Back to Europe and to a more colder climate, Norway! And I love it! I signed up for "The Sketchbook Project" before I left which is an open sketchbook project that allows any one to create their own sketchbook which then goes on tour around different libraries in America. Anyone can take it out or even buy it. My theme is "If you lived here..." and it's based on different living spaces large or small...Here is what I have so far!

So my dear friend Kieran has come up with a marvelous idea to create funding for a worthy creative set of podcasts that are called www.thedolectures.com - check them out...Since they are running low on funds, Kieran has decided to get hold of the awesome graphic design magazine called 'Grafik' and completely graffiti it with illustrations, stickers, paintings, objects etc by lots of upcoming designers/ illustrators and selling it at auction to help his friends out. I thought this was such a nice idea, that I would help out by filling a few pages...I'm passing it around like the gnome in Amelie to see if anyone else wants to join in. It's nice being part of something 'doing' something for a worthy cause. Here are my entries...

So this is a little of what I did during my placement year at Brighton, I lived in Denmark for half a year and worked at a small print house called Fusion CPH, it was lots of fun, drinking a lot of coffee and tuborg!

And this is a small portion of my graduate work at Brighton, I loved my final year, even though it drove me insane. I managed to win the Textile Bursary Award from the Textile Society and I am featured in TEXT Magazine Volume: 35 2007-8. I also won the Textile Award for my year sponsored by Fox Williams.

I've decided to start a blog to encourage me to work more, this way I can upload my drawings, thoughts, photographs to inspire me in the year ahead. To be completely honest, sitting in my office and answering emails is becoming a dirty habit. As she says in Strictly Ballroom,

" A life lived in fear is a life half lived".

Also, this weather reminds me of when I lived in Copenhagen and seeing the children tobogganing outside the MOMA. It is cold outside.
